Abstract

Murray Rothbard (1926-1995) was an Austrian and libertarian economist who held views far outside the accepted mainstream. He was what can be considered a heterodox political economist writing from a libertarian point of view. Rothbard eventually came to the conclusion that there was no economic justification for government. Nevertheless his was extremely prolific in both mainstream and non-mainstream outlets and his work has influenced many people. This article outlines the main influences on Murray Rothbard and surveys his main contributions.
