Abstract

This paper is about visitors’ preferences for cultural heritage (multimedia) information. The issues concern the quality of the information (e.g. practical, general, specific), the “depth” of the information, and the “timing” for delivering such information (e.g. during, before or after a visit).

The discussion about these issues is based upon a visitors’ study (throughout interviews), implemented at the Museo Cantonale d’Arte in Lugano (CH) during the modern-contemporary art exhibition “Look at me”, in February 2010. Some of the findings from the study could have been expected; other findings were a little surprising and provided useful hints for future visitor studies and also for improving the quality and effectiveness of multimedia for cultural heritage.

Keywords: visitors’ study, cultural heritage, information communication technology, multimedia
