Abstract
Yearly review of highlights of international biotechnology law and policy developments, genetically modified organisms (GMOs), biosafety, and GM foods and WTO trade regulation. Years in review: 2007-2008.
The year 2008 was one of relative calm for the global regulation of agricultural biotechnology and biosafety. Following tumultuous development in recent years, both in terms of trade dispute resolutions in the World Trade Organization (WTO) and as regards regulatory developments in international treaties and standard setting for a, this year provided a period of elaboration of past political compromises, as well as preparations for negotiations on difficult dossiers in years to come.
