Abstract

This is a personal essay musing about how property law concepts such as abandonment, mislaid property, and gifts would affect the status of personal property left by the author's father in her childhood home in the course of divorce. It draws parallels with the case of Willcox v. Stroup, involving ownership of confederate gubernatorial papers.

Keywords: personal property, gifts, abandonment, mislaid property, laches, divorce, Walter Wheeler Cook, possession
