Abstract
We use structural equation modeling, with latent variables to study the influence of parental inversion in cognitive skill formation in Mexican children. We use data coming from the ENNVIH 1 and 2. We study the influence of parental skills and the lag of the child’s skills, and we found that the latter is the only statistically significant input. We introduce a new element, in a more conventional exercise, studying the technology of formation of cognitive achievements (not latent), while we still consider inversion as latent; we found that, as the cognitive achievement lagged, parental inversion and parental cognitive achievement are statistically significant in producing cognitive achievements. When we split the sample into two age groups, we found evidence of sensitive periods for the inputs of the cognitive achievements production function.
