Abstract

This paper, based theoretically on the resource-based view of the firm, investigates the extent to which training contributes to the firm’s innovation and explores a relationship between the integration of training in the firm’s business strategies and the extent to which training contributes to the firm’s innovation. A statistical analysis of the data obtained from a survey of 111 training professionals employed in small, medium, and large firms in different industries (service, retailing, and manufacturing) reveals that the majority of the participants perceived that training contributed moderately, highly, or very highly to the firm’s innovation. The participants’ perceived involvement in the integration of training in their firms’ business strategies and the extent to which training contributes to their firms’ innovation was statistically connected, rs (97) = .566, p < .01.
