Economic Competitiveness and the Sudanese Agricultural Commodities

Abstract

Since independence in 1956, the structure of domestic production and export sectors, the level of capacities to absorb economic shocks, and the historically market-oriented nature of the economy, when taken collectively, they constitutes distinguishing characteristics of Sudan economy at present. These features make Sudan economy more vulnerable to distortions and transformation in global trading policies in the agricultural sector. The Sudan agriculture tends to look abroad to develop sales and boosts income. Exports generate additional economic activities that flow into the domestic economy. The main goal is to create profit from agricultural product exports and to maximize returns from every Sudanese pound of exports. Exports also mean jobs that pay higher than average wages and are distributed across many communities and businesses.
