Abstract

Making knowledge usable as a resource of value creation requires an adequate understanding of the potentials and limitations of the representation and transfer of knowledge objects. Exploring these possibilities and constraints is the purpose of the following sketchy considerations. Highly relevant for the practice of knowledge management are the issues of encoding and exchange of knowledge. A number of systematic reflections regarding knowledge dimensions and flow are intended to contribute to answering these questions. We start with taking a view on structural functionalism, which we consider a basically adequate perspective on knowledge management in corporations.
