Abstract
This chapter deals with the scope and application of the Cultural Diversity Convention from the viewpoint of a 'developing country', namely South Africa, beginning with the role of the country leading up to the implementation of the Cultural Diversity Convention. The chapter then turns to the principles applicable to the application of the Cultural Diversity Convention in South Africa, in the process examining South Africa's expectations in terms of the Convention and role as a developing country. Finally, this chapter focuses on the practical application of the Cultural Diversity Convention in South Africa, concluding with a few remarks on the future role of the Convention in the country.
