Abstract
As Russia moved from a command to a market economy in the early 1990s, there was a need for reform in many areas of law, including consumer protection law. At the time, there was a fear that merchants in the new economy would take advantage of their new found freedom to the detriment of consumers. This paper analyzes the Russian Consumer Law and its strengths and weaknesses compared to similar laws in the United States and Europe.
