Abstract

The process of fertility decline is a modern phenomenon of society. As explained there are different conceptions of the theory of demographic transition and are based traditionally on an economic vision, even when there are contributions from other social sciences. This document incorporates in part said theories and analyzes the fertility decline in the case of Colombia using the model of proximate determinants of fertility, following the proposal made by Bongaarts (1978) and Gertler and Molyneaux (1994).
