Abstract

Cooperative learning is a viable yet generally underutilized method of instruction at the college level. This paper analyzes the “Five Pillars” of cooperative learning as outlined by Johnson, Johnson, & Smith (1991) as they relate to the utilization of this learning strategy by college faculty to prepare students for their professional endeavors and offers a model for the implementation of this strategy within the post-secondary classroom setting. This paper presents a rationale for using the cooperative learning strategy in post-secondary education and then provides a model for applying this strategy in the post-secondary classroom.
