Abstract
Today, academia must contribute to the development of a common knowledge base which may be utilized for networked solutions to overcome economic, social and ecological problems. In this context, the question is not only what to learn, but rather how to learn it (learning culture). This applies to individuals and groups, and leads to the question what learning environment may (and must) be offered. Admittedly, these questions are not new. But, with view to the modern, global societal change, new answers need to be found. In the following, the concept of sustainability is introduced as an orientation framework for both aspects: it offers a level of reflection for the selection of contents, and starting points for a methodical organisation.
