Abstract
Over the last decades the number of journal publications in entrepreneurship research has increased dramatically. To analyze the perception of these studies, the present paper suggests a relative measure – the so-called resonance factor (RF) –, which puts a paper’s citations in relation to the number of expected citations of the average paper of the same age. We apply this resonance factor to 257 entrepreneurship studies published between 1997 and 2007 and the respective Google Scholar citations they achieved until 2010. All studies included in the sample were authored by researchers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The study identifies trends in publications and discusses – based on the resonance factor – the most important contributions over the inspected time period in four areas of entrepreneurship research, i.e. entrepreneurial opportunities, the entrepreneurial personality, organization and management as well as environmental influences on entrepreneurship.
