Abstract

Realising the equality, support, protection and socio-economic service aspirations of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities raise important practical challenges for governments, for service providers, for families, and - centrally - for intellectually disabled people. Operationalising the idea of supported decisionmaking and then marrying it with personalised service funding packages or other individualised delivery is one current example. This paper examines the limited contribution law can make to this enterprise.

Keywords: supported decisionmaking, personalised funding packages, intellectual disability, socio-economic rights, role of law
