Abstract

From 1950 to 2010, the distribution of world population changed significantly. The largest change was that Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean increased from 17.3% to 25% of the world population while Northern America and Europe declined from 22.7% to 12.4%. Asia changed little, only increasing from 60% of world population to 63% (Charts 1 and 2). This report presents a brief summary of the major causes for the changes.
