Abstract
Has there ever been an occasion when you wondered what the accurate picture (as distinct from the law) was on some aspect of corporate insolvency? While it may be that statistics often only confirm what years of long experience in practice have taught us, this is not always the case. So, have you ever wished someone (including, in this case, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC)) had produced actual evidence to support your anecdotal observations on insolvency policy and practice? It might have been regarding just how many companies go into liquidation owning liquid assets. Perhaps you wondered, at the end of the 1990s, just how big was the “employee entitlements problem” or, more recently, given that one liquidator has been disqualified for life, just how many more are engaging in the activities that he did.
