Abstract

This paper will explore the interrelationship between violent juvenile behavior and juveniles taking a multiplicity of psychotropic drugs. Part I of the paper will discuss the history of children being treated with mood-altering drugs. Ritalin, one of the original drugs administered to children in the quest to control or repress behavior, will be discussed, as will Federal Drug Administration (FDA) action on the newer anti-depressants. Part II will address the issue of how adequately children are diagnosed with diseases that warrant administration of such psychotropic drugs.
