Abstract
The identity and role of the United Nations General Assembly has changed, and is continuing to change, due to conflicting preferences in governmental structures, unequal wealth distribution, ideological debates of societal values and concerns over human rights and democracy. These ideological changes are in part due to the evolving membership of General Assembly that has changed drastically over the years. This article describes some of these changes and then comments on how they have influenced the Assembly’s legal functions and structure.
