Abstract

The world is changing around organizations on a daily basis. Innovations in technology, new ways of doing business, emerging markets, globalization, and more are increasing the need for leaders to deal with change directly. Change within organizations is difficult enough without the added dimension of a global context. Issues such as culture, language and geographical context are just a few of the many obstacles that can be faced by leaders when attempting to affect change globally. This paper will deal directly with the issue of leading change in a global context. Examining the cultural and contextual factors involved in global leadership will allow for a deeper understanding of both the similarities and differences that exist between global and domestic change. In order to examine this topic, literature will be reviewed from both global leadership and change leadership theorists. Finally, this paper will examine the change model proposed by Black and Gregersen (2008) within the context of the Eastern European country of Ukraine.
