Abstract

This contribution aims at analyzing the performance and interplay of the African Union, the European Union and United Nations in Sudan and South Sudan. In particular, the paper examines the relationship between the two regional organizations and the universal organization par excellence on the ground, and attempts to answer questions such as the following: how is the distribution of tasks between the three organizations carried out? Do any of them exercise a clear leadership? What are the principles that guide the relationship between the three organizations? Is it complementarity? Is it subsidiarity? Is there a hierarchy in place between the three? Should there be one?
