Abstract

Sir Kenneth Keith reflects in this article on two lectures given in 1906 and 1922 by Hon Sir John Salmond. In these lectures, as in his other works, Salmond demonstrates within the one remarkable professional life the healthy interaction between the various professional and public roles of lawyers. The author discusses Salmond’s prophetic recognition of racism as a matter of international concern, his efforts – which are continuing today – to “purify warfare”, and his optimism towards the prospects for the peaceful settlement of disputes.
