Abstract

Unlike most economists, I am a strong believer in the value of field reports. What follows are observations based on a trek I took to Sarajevo and Pale (11-13 December 1996). And a trek it was, one that included military transport flights, armoured cars, body guards and other local oddities. All this was in the line of duty, not military, but economic. I was gauging the progress being made towards establishing a currency board system in Bosnia and Herzegovina, or what is commonly known as Bosnia.
