Abstract
The Revitalized American National Government (POLS 2010) course was funded to be taught at Austin Peay State University in the fall of 2011. The objective of the course was to effectively engage and retain students by reducing the DFW rate by at least 15%. Although the revitalized course did not mean the threshold, it reduced the DFW rate by 9%, which would seem to suggest that continued engagement of students can be attained when they are stimulated by the course content through simulation, discussions, debates, group and cooperative activities.
