Abstract
This new book, published by Melbourne University Publishing, examines employee share ownership in Australia. Employee share ownership has the potential to generate a culture of enterprise and innovation, and build national wealth and savings. This book is the culmination of a multi-year research project and is the first detailed discussion of the theory, policy and practice of employee share ownership plans (ESOPs) in Australia. The chapters of the book are: 1.) Key legal and policy issues relevant to ESOPs. 2.) The current incidence and forms of ESOPs in Australia. 3.) The corporate law framework. 4.) The taxation law framework. 5.) Why do employers implement ESOPs and why do employees participate in them? 6.) International comparisons. 7.) Conclusion and recommendations for reform.
