Abstract

Academic discussion on sustainable competitive advantage is rooted through generic strategy by Porter and resource based view by Barney. Followed by war on talent, a new area of scholarly discussion emerged which links talent with RBV. Now we have great amount of papers discussing strategic talent management (STM) as source of competitive advantage (SCA).

The literature has not put much attention on how strategic talent management is the source of competitive advantage meeting the criteria of rare, valuable, inimitable and non-substitutable resource.

This study has theoretically explained how STM become SCA through strategic talent selection, strategic talent development, strategic talent pool and strategic talent architecture. The study presents talent competitiveness framework for further theoretical exploration and empirical testing.

Keywords: Key Words: strategic talent management, RBV, sustainable competitive advantage, human resource management
