Abstract
Despite our increasing use of online searching, we still need and use reference books, some so frequently that we keep them within reach. In this essay, I write about some staples and reflect on my transition to using digital versions of them. Works discussed are: The Bluebook (print, online, and iPad app); BNA's Directory of State and Federal Courts, Judges, and Clerks (available as an app, but I use it in print); English dictionaries: American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language (print and iPad app); Free online dictionaries: Vocabulary.com, Dictionary.com, Oxford Dictionaries Online; OED Online (licensed product); New Oxford American Dictionary (Kindle); Black's Law Dictionary (print, Westlaw, and iPad app); Garner's Modern American Usage (print and Kindle); USCA Popular Name Table (print and Westlaw); AALL Directory & Handbook (print and online).
