Abstract

Socially Responsible Investment – in particular Environmental Social Governance issues (ESG) including human rights – is becoming a crucial issue. Although not a new concept, the integration of ESG and human rights factors into investment decisions remains a challenge. Given recent corporate governance developments it is being given increasing focus and legitimacy and enjoys growing support amongst asset owners, investors and authorities. A range of initiatives already exist or are in the process of being launched. The time is right for a deeper analysis. This short paper introduces the subject and outlines the mandate of the ILA-study group.

Keywords: Socially responsible investment, environmental social governance, human rights
