Abstract

Foreign Direct Investment takes place when foreign players are investing in Indian assets with the intention to control the management of the company. FDI is possible by three routes - through cross border merger and acquisition, opening a subsidiary and creating a joint venture. The role of FDI in the productivity of domestic firms in the emerging market has become a major area of concern. The foreign firms from developed countries typically enjoy technological superiority; strong management capabilities and their technologies as well as management practices can be transferred to or imitated by domestic firms in emerging markets.
