Abstract
This essay covers the contemporary issues related to nuclear power production in India and its related uses. It covers the present status of nuclear electricity generation in India, future potential, different sources of nuclear fuel, and environmental issues. In additional to this, a comparative [dis]advantage of nuclear fuel is discussed in terms of greenhouse gas emission, safety standards, economics, and sustainability over other fuel sources like hydro and coal. This essay discusses India's three stage nuclear power program, which has emphasis on self dependence in nuclear fuel production. In the end, the essay discusses other spin off advantages of nuclear energy in other fields like agriculture, medicine, etc.
