Abstract

The wars and economic blockade, for the period 1980 -2003 which had impacted on Iraqi economy, were characterized by technological retardation and poor production. The military operations and robberies, that followed the occupation of Iraq in 2003, destroyed most of economic institutions and infrastructure. After 2003, there was a great hope for most Iraqis about possibility of achieving economic development, through the transition to a market economy, and build the economic base, depending on the state, local private sector, and foreign direct investment, but it has faced a number of challenges that have impeded the process of growth and development. This paper analyzes, the economic development process challenges in Iraq.
