Abstract
Colombia's LGBT citizens face such severe persecution in their homeland that many are forced to seek asylum abroad. But proving a case for asylum in the United States has been a significant challenge for homosexuals because many immigration judges continue to make decisions based on personal biases that are difficult to overcome or because judges do not understand the conditions in Colombia and elsewhere that compel LGBTs to flee. This article sheds light on the very real dangers LGBTs face in Colombia and is intended to help US immigration judges become better informed.
