Abstract

Recently, multiple coaches at major programs have been accused of abuse by players. There are legal and financial risks involved when a coach places himself or herself between abusive behavior and legitimate indoctrination. Institutions must be aware of the risk associated with these allegations, as unfounded allegations may result, for instance, in wrongful termination suits. A balance must be struck since coaches run the risk of legal exposure, reputation damage and termination if the line is crossed.
