Abstract
Between 2008 and 2013, an international group of more than 100 negotiation scholars and teachers participated in a multi-phase Rethinking Negotiation Teaching (RNT) project. The purpose of the RNT project was to reconsider what and how negotiation is taught, given continuing developments in the negotiation field and the truly global environment in which negotiation (and negotiation teaching) takes place. The RNT project included three working conferences (in Rome, Istanbul and Beijing) and the resulting publication of four edited volumes, as well as additional journal articles and related publications. In 2011, the authors set out to create from scratch the first fully-realized negotiation course to take advantage of everything that had been learned up till then in the course of this multi-year RNT project. In 2012, the authors revamped the course to respond to their own initial critiques as well as to further incorporate some of the latest thinking and writings from the RNT project. This article articulates and reflects on the closest educational venture that yet exists to the RNT project’s original intent to create a “Negotiation 2.0” course.
