Abstract
This chapter outlines the definitions of the concept of reputation and shows how they derive from different disciplines. The authors also discuss how they are inter-related in the management literature. Reputation is closely linked to an organization's perceived capacity to produce high-quality goods or services. Yet often quality is difficult to define and measure, particularly in the context of professional service firms. We consider the implications of the relationship between quality and reputation drawing on research conducted among a variety of professional service firms including law and management consulting.
