Abstract
Introduction to the publication of the previously unpublished essay "Institutional History and the Classical Economics," by Frank H. Knight. Discusses what the essay tells us about Knight's views about institutionalism and economics around 1930. The proper science of economics, Knight argues in his essay, sits between the historical, cultural and institutional details of human wants and the resources available to meet them on one side, and ethical discussion of what values human ought to pursue on the other. Between institutional history and ethics, as it were.
