Abstract

This short article surveys the different meanings of justice, starting with the distinction between procedural and substantive justice, and then exploring Aristotle's four categories of substantive justice: justice in rectification, justice in exchange (commutative justice), distributive justice, and political justice. It ends with a brief survey of four theories of justice: virtue-based, natural law, contractarian, and utilitarian.
