Abstract
English Abstract: The author postulates that the Soviet identity in the Caucasus had some institutional features of both, civic identities, since the Soviet identity did not mean a formal connection to an ethnic group and an ethnic identity. This is because Soviet people were supposed to use the Russian language in interethnic interactions. The Soviet identity clashed with most ethnic identities. When the attractiveness of the Soviet identity decreased for the elites and most of the population, during deSovietization, ethnogeneses became a real political process.
