Abstract

All the three wings of the armed forces are facing acute shortage of officers. Despite being having world’s second largest army and world’s fourth largest air force, Indian army is facing a shortage of 24-26% of officers and air force a shortage of 5% of officers as on Feb 1, 2013. Mostly the positions in the junior level are lying vacant. Being one of the honourable profession, still its bleeding with shortage of officers at various dimensions of hierarchy.

This research was undertaken to investigate the primary reasons for youth not attracted towards forces. A Pilot study was done with a sample size of 200 compromising of 100 sample size from armed forces personnel wards and 100 sample size from civil background wards. A questionnaire was drafted and distributed by stratified random sampling technique.
