Raúl Ruiz Y La Poética Barroca (Raúl Ruiz and the Baroque Poetics)

Abstract

Spanish Abstract: El propósito del presente ensayo es hacer un análisis comparativo entre la película “hipótesis de un cuadro robado” de Raúl Ruiz, a partir del método crítico que José Lezama Lima llamó red de imágenes o método de contrapunto. Dicho método inauguró una perspectiva singular y audaz de interpretar la temporalidad histórica, ya no desde la narración lineal del mundo europeo-occidental, sino como un recorte de temporalidades entre el pasado y el presente, elemento característico de la estética (neo)barroca de origen latinoamericano, que ciertamente desestabiliza la concepción de una estética hegemónica y euro centrista. Lo que este artículo se propone discutir son las semejanzas estilísticas y conceptuales de este inédito método con el film de Ruiz que despliega una estructura y temporalidad no aristotélica, desde la cual se desborda una fotografía recargada, esotérica y metafísica.

English Abstract: The purpose of this essay is to make a comparative analysis between the film "Hipótesis de un Cuadro Robado" ("The Hypothesis of the Stolen Painting" by Raúl Ruiz, starting with the critical method that José Lezama Lima called the network of images or counterpoint method. This method iniciated a singular perspective and the bold interpretation of historical temporality, not as the linear narration of the European-Occidental world, but as a snapshot of temporalities between the past and present, which is a characteristic element of the (Neo-) Baroque aesthetic of Latin American origin, and which certainly challenged the concept of a hegemonic aesthetic and Euro-centrism. This article proposes to discuss the stylistic similarities and conceptual ideas of this unprecedented method with Ruiz’s film, which shows the non-Aristotelian structure and temporality that an ornate, esoteric and metaphysical photograph bursts with.
