Abstract

Women’s access to, use of and control over land and other productive resources are essential to ensuring their right to equality and to an adequate standard of living. In this paper, I argue that the improvement of women’s right to own land definitely translates into the economic well being and empowerment of women. I further critically examine this right under the current Ugandan legal regime and the evidence of this right’s neglect by the authorities. Finally measures that can be taken to address this situation are discussed.
