Abstract

Corruption is wide spread in many developing economies and Indonesia is not an exception. Corruption is a complex issue. Its roots lie deep in bureaucratic and political institutions, and its effect on development varies from country to country. Corruption in the public sector is a broad topic, yet the majority of academic or policy studies, as well as anti-corruption policies, have focused on the issue of corruption in the police forces. Corruption exists in one form or the other in the police system. Corruption has infected and vitiated the moral values of the society and the police force cannot be an exception. In fact, corruption of police is not a new phenomenon, but the irony is that the issue has seldom been seized by the organization with a sense of seriousness. In this paper an attempt has been made to discuss the various aspects of police corruption in Indonesia. The author has tried to discuss the various factors influence police corruption and suggest some ways to control the corruption among policemen. The main objective of the paper is to discuss the extent, causes and suggested control of police corruption. This paper will provide a foundation and will suggest a few recommendations that can effectively combat corruption in the police sector of Indonesia.
