Abstract

Online Distance Education is a mode of the education that utilizes technology, and instructional systems designed, to deliver education to students who are not physically on site. The purpose of this study is to reflect the strength and weaknesses of organization of online Distance Education at University of Jaffna. The study describes the development and production of lecture materials, the distribution of those materials, and communication with the students. In this research, it is analysed to what extent the organizing activities of Online Distance Education is effective and how it can be empowered in future. These are discussed under the headings of Institutional Planning, and management, Learning infrastructure and resources, programme design and development, learner support and progress, course design and development, Learner assessment and evaluation. The Primary and secondary data are used to find out whether the organizing activities of online distance education is effective or ineffective and how it leads to empower the programme. The results are presented to find out the conclusions and suggestions for further development in future. It is concluded that the Institutional Planning and management, and Learning infrastructure and resources should be enhanced to effective organizing activities and to empower Online distance education. The programme design and development is in satisfactory level of the respondents and it meets the overall objectives of the programme. However it can be empowered through strengthen the activities of Learner support and progress, course design and development and learner assessment and evaluation. It is suggested that the Online distance education can be empowered through well organized activities.
