Abstract

"The Oxford Handbook of the Economics of Religion is divided into six sections, including the Introduction, Religion and Human Capital, The Nature of Religious Economies, Regulation of the Religion Market, Economic Aspects of Religion, and Data Sets on Religion. In the introduction, McCleary gives a masterful summary of the study of the economics of religion, ranging from its theoretical foundation in Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations to more contemporary interpretations. McCleary includes an extended treatment of the basic concepts of the economics of religion, allowing this volume to serve as an introduction for the student and a summary for the scholar who may need a re-introduction to the field."
