Abstract

This paper discusses three fundamental questions about admiralty law. First, is the admiralty jurisdiction strictly necessary? Second, should the admiralty jurisdiction be abolished? Third, what makes the admiralty jurisdiction unique or distinctive? The author examines whether a separate admiralty jurisdiction is theoretically and practically justifiable in the 21st century.
