Abstract

Damro’s theorisation of Market Power Europe (MPE) is a rich and reinvigorating proposal to move forward debates on the nature of the EU’s action in the world across a range of disciplines. Damro offers an important bridge between current law and political science debates on how the EU acts in the world and how to understand the external dimension to EU action. MPE builds upon Manners’ ‘Normative Power Europe’ which is a deeply entrenched understanding of the EU in legal theory. The account may be said to have a difficult relationship between active and passive action and direct and indirect action. But these are profoundly complex themes that are also the subject of much analysis in current legal scholarship.
