Abstract

English Abstract: The development of local content on the Internet, is one of the most important stimuli to increase broadband adoption. In this paper, the current situation in Latin America in terms of the importance of local content in relation to total traffic is described. The investigation determined that the purely local Internet sites represent only 26% of total traffic in Latin America remains the region with the lowest percentage of local content when compared with other geographies. The lack of local content represents a major barrier to broadband adoption and development of digitization in Latin America. This situation, coupled with the fact that the region content analysis shows a predominance of platforms limited social impact, represents a fundamental challenge to the public and private sectors in the region. Creating conditions and incentives for the private sector means assume a leading role in the development of digital content, combined with the application development and e-government content represent the two drive shafts work in the region.
