Abstract

This article briefly describes the last two decades of the Tata group’s transformational journey toward business excellence. It provides an overview of the sequence of business excellence, globalization, and innovation initiatives that the Tata group used to transform itself from a $4 billion Indian group in 1991 to a global group that, as of 2014, operates in more than 100 countries with revenues approaching $103 billion, more than 67% of which has come from outside India. Authors outline a framework for using the levers of business excellence and innovation for transformation.
