Abstract
This paper argues that one of the main conceptual problems in the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act of India, 1956 is the misplaced moralistic criminalisation of prostitutes at the cost of dealing adequately with the problem of trafficking of women itself. As a result there is a diffusion in the focus on exploitative elements and violations suffered by trafficked women.
