Abstract

The subject of the paper is the three erroneous accounts of Holmes's death in 1891 mentioned by Dr Watson in 1893, all of which accounts seem to have appeared in newspapers. The only named newspaper carrying such an account is discussed, as is the international news agency said to be the source of one of the other accounts.

Keywords: Sherlock Holmes Canon, Sherlock Holmes's apparent death in 1891, the Journal de Geneve, Reuters
